Dominicans in Washington Heights struggle with rising food prices

New York.- Dominican residents of Washington Heights have voiced growing frustration over the rising cost of living in New York, saying that high prices for essential goods and stagnant wages are making it increasingly difficult to afford basic necessities.
During visits to local supermarkets, many expressed concern about steep grocery prices — including rice, eggs, chicken, and bread — and warned that the possible suspension of federal food assistance programs in November, due to the government shutdown, could worsen their situation.
Residents shared their struggles, noting that a 50-pound bag of rice costs nearly US$24, milk sells for up to US$5.39, and meat prices range from US$2.24 to US$2.99 per pound. “If they take away this aid, we don’t know what we’ll do,” one woman said, while others lamented that “prices are sky-high and wages are rock-bottom,” describing the current economic conditions as “very difficult.”

I think it’s time they move back to the Dominican Republic, bring their knowledge, build businesses, and add real value to the Dominican economy — instead of just working to pay bills. sadly will continue to get worse as the dollars loses value, the US debt is 37T
Hard times coming for the US indeed
If you migrate and have to be on aid, then you should return to where you came from.
Sounds cheap for NYC. I have been seeing ground beef $6 a pound and don’t know what meat is $2.24/lb. Street cart dirty water hotdogs are $5 to $10 each. One fresh plain bagel is $2 to $4. NYC is not for the poor or lower middle class. Can’t afford it may want to move to more affordable area.
voting for Mamdani to get govt supermarkets and free bus rides?
We here should at least ship eggs to our family and friends in NY…jjj
