Senate leader warns opposition on violence in city council voting:

Santo Domingo.- The secretary general of Dominican Republic’sruling party (PLD) on Monday warned of possible violence across the country duringthe elections of the municipal boards on August 16.

Reinaldo Pared said he hopes that just as the leadership ofthe opposition party (PRM) has left theelections within the City councils at the discretion of its council members andto democratic fair play, they’ll express the same attitude the Congress and theCouncil a national of Magistracy, to choose important government agency.

He blames the PRM from any act of violence that may occur duringthe municipal process on August 16.

Pared reiterated that he expects the same attitude from theopposition when the time comes to choose the leadership of the Senate and the lowerchamber, and other major state institutions such as the Magistrate Council,which will start the process to choose the justices of the high courts.
