Dominican Republic leader pledges 4 more years of economic growth

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina and vice president Margarita Cedeñoon Tuesday took the oath of office in a lengthy ceremony which started at 10:30amin Congress.

In his speech, Medina promised to work “even harder” so thecountry’s economy continues on the path of growth and development.

“I never forget my roots in the country’s interior, especiallyon a day like this, I am a son of this nation. You can rest assured that who’s governingyou is one of yours,” Medina said.

FILE.- Starting six o’clock Tuesday the streetsaround Congress have been cordoned off by the National Police, just hoursbefore.

Police officers have been placed several blocks aroundCongress, where several heads of state and delegations of dignitaries will startarriving for the inaugural, set for 10:15am.
