President Abinader declares regional disaster due to flood damage

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader issued decree 311-24 this Friday, declaring a regional disaster situation due to the significant and extensive damage caused by recent heavy rains across the national territory. The most affected provinces include La Vega, Hermanas Mirabal, Espaillat, Duarte, and Santiago, among others.

The decree allows the Executive Branch to modify the disaster declaration and the provisions of the special regime as needed until the situation is declared normal, in accordance with paragraph I of article 23 of Law no. 147-02 on Risk Management.

Additionally, the National Meteorological Office reported increased instability and humidity, leading to cloudiness, moderate to strong downpours, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

In response to the recent downpours, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) has reduced the number of provinces on alert to 24, with 12 provinces now in yellow alert and another 12 in green alert.
