US Ambassador confirmation for the Dominican Republic set for Thursday

U.S. Congressman Adriano Espaillat announced that Juan Carlos Iturregui will be confirmed as the U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic. Espaillat shared the news on his X account, stating that the confirmation hearing will take place in the U.S. Senate on Thursday, June 13.

“As president of the Friends of the Dominican Republic Caucus in Congress, I am proud to have led my colleagues in urging the Biden administration to nominate an ambassador to the DR, and I will be happy if the Senate confirms Iturregui,” Espaillat wrote.

According to Espaillat, Iturregui is a professional with extensive experience in legal, commercial, and public policy matters, which will “further strengthen the ties” between the two nations.

In December of last year, President Joe Biden nominated Juan Carlos Iturregui as the U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic. Iturregui is the managing partner of Milan Americas, LLC, and vice president of the board of directors of the Inter-American Foundation of the United States.

He also served as a member of the Presidential Export Council, the country’s main advisory panel on international trade and foreign markets. Iturregui holds a doctorate in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a law degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.

Let’s hope the divided US Senate can unite to confirm Juan Carlos Iturregui as the new ambassador to the RD from the US. It has been a long time waiting.

That has nothing to do with the senate. It has to do with the fact that since Obama took office the Dominican Republic has not been taken serious by both Obama and Biden all because our immigration policy. Haiti has had two ambassadors since Biden took office and Biden named one for the Dominican Republic but later on changed his mind and sent him to the Bahamas. The Democrats has never been good friends to the Dominican Republic. During the Bush administration we had 2 ambassadors and during the Trump administration we had an stellar for ambassador. That woman ambassador defended the Dominican Republic when the US media were saying that Americans were getting poisoned in this country. Stating that it is safer for Americans in the Dominican Republic than it is in their country.

The Democrats normally don’t care about the Dominican Republic since Obama took office. Which is why during the Obama administration we only had one ambassador and now the Biden has been in office for nearly 3.5 years is when a new ambassador to the Dominican Republic is named. But Haiti a country without a government has had 2 ambassadors in the same period of time.
