Dominican forces vigilant against Haitian gangs

Santo Domingo.- The Armed Forces of the Dominican Republic have announced heightened vigilance to prevent criminal gangs from Haiti from using the country as an escape route. This move comes in response to the arrival of Kenyan troops in Haiti, who are assisting local authorities in regaining control of the territory.

A statement from the Dominican military high command emphasized the primary mission of securing the border with Haiti. “The Government and the entire society can be sure that this responsibility will be and is being fulfilled,” the statement affirmed.

The Armed Forces highlighted the importance of restoring order and establishing a democratic government in Haiti for the stability of the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean region.

Efforts are focused on ensuring tranquility in border provinces including Pedernales, Independencia, Bahoruco, Elías Piña, Santiago Rodríguez, Montecristi, and Dajabón. The Dominican Republic Army has deployed its 3rd, 4th, and 5th Infantry Brigades across the border region.

Comprehensive security measures are in place, involving the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Specialized Corps in Border and Land Security (Cesfront). Key battalions and military detachments are strategically stationed across the border to prevent any illicit crossings.

In support of these efforts, President Luis Abinader and Dominican diplomacy have been actively advocating for international support to restore peace and democracy in Haiti.

Heightened vigilance is just talk. Actions that show the results of vigilance is what the public requires. Arrests and convictions of border mafias would be a start.

When was the last time a border mafia network canceled?

The border has a business that does not want change.
