Beryl is already a category 1 hurricane and advances towards the Caribbean

Santo Domingo – The second tropical storm of the hurricane season, Beryl, became a category one hurricane this Saturday, some 1,160 kilometers east/southeast of Barbados.

The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) reported this, noting that today’s rains are related to a trough, not Beryl.

Although the hurricane does not represent a danger for the country due to its position, Onamet called on the citizens to be attentive to the authorities’ bulletins since, according to the projected trajectory, the phenomenon is expected to pass near Barahona in the waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Forecasts indicate that Beryl will be felt as of early Tuesday morning.
The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has not issued any related alert.
