Mayor Mejía directs restoration efforts for the Boardwalk

Santo Domingo.- Mayor Carolina Mejía worked late into the night with various institutions to repair the boardwalk and restore normalcy following the significant damage caused by Hurricane Beryl. She reported that critical areas of Santo Domingo like El Hoyo de Bate and Los Platanitos were being attended to, and efforts began on the 30 de Mayo highway and the Malecón promenade. An 80-year-old man was relocated due to a landslide at his home.

Starting at 6:00 AM, work commenced at the Monument to Fray Antón de Montesinos, and brigades were deployed to vulnerable areas. Mejía emphasized the importance of protecting people and returning to normalcy quickly. The boardwalk was closed from Gregorio Luperón Avenue to Abraham Lincoln due to strong waves. She expressed gratitude to the National District Prevention, Mitigation, and Response Committee and called on restaurants and builders to support improved solid waste management to prevent flooding.
