Defense Minister launches supervision tour of Dominican-Haitian Border

Santo Domingo.- Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, the Minister of Defense, will commence a three-day supervision tour this Thursday, covering the border provinces between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The tour aims to assess the operational readiness of soldiers protecting the border.

The inspection will take place from Thursday to Saturday. Minister Díaz Morfa will evaluate the conditions of military barracks, surveillance points, and troops in the area. The tour will also review operations aimed at safeguarding national security and defense.

“Our border is well protected from north to south by air, sea, and land, thanks to the efforts of our specialized security forces. This tour supports the work of our soldiers,” stated Defense Minister Díaz Morfa.

The tour will start in Manzanillo (Pepillo Salcedo), Monte Cristi, and will cover Dajabón, Elías Piña, Independencia, Jimaní, and Pedernales provinces. Minister Díaz Morfa will be accompanied by key military officials, including Brigadier General Freddy R. Soto Thorman of CESFRONT, Pilot Brigadier General Juan Carlos Vicente Pérez of Civil Affairs (J5), Brigadier General Luis A. Coronado Abreu overseeing the intelligent perimeter fence construction, and Colonel Dante Luis Ovalle Lugo of MIDE Operations Directorate (J3).

Starting at pyramid #01 in Montecristi and concluding at pyramid #311 at the mouth of the Pedernales River, the tour will visit towns such as Libertador, Don Miguel, Tamarindo, La Peñita, Capotillo, Loma de Cabrera, Restauración, Villa Anacaona, and more. Key locations include Army companies and detachments like the 25th Company in Pedro Santana, “Cacique Enriquillo,” “Pinos del Edén,” the 14th Infantry Battalion headquarters in Duvergé, and other strategic points along the border.

Announced visits allow the dirt to be swept under carpet. The Minister should get in his helicopter at the spur of the moment and order the pilot to fly to the border. Once there he will chance a more honest view of the border environment by reason of surprise inspection.

It could be suggested after the announced visit, the Minister wait a week and then return unannounced. It is a bet some border troops will be caught with their pants down.
