Over 4,000 graduates from Oportunidad 14-24 program

Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader celebrated a significant milestone this Saturday as he presided over the graduation of 4,596 Oportunidad 14-24 program beneficiaries. The event was followed by the inauguration of several new public infrastructure projects across the Greater Santo Domingo area, including two childcare centers, a high school, a sports complex, and a renovated canal.

In Capotillo, Abinader, accompanied by the director of INEFI (National Institute for Educational and Professional Training), Alberto Rodríguez, inaugurated a new sports complex at the Salomé Ureña school. The RD$31 million facility will provide a safe and modern space for the school’s 1,074 students and the local community.

Rodríguez highlighted the sports complex as a model for the school system, featuring high-quality materials, improved ventilation, modern bathrooms, and a state-of-the-art interactive whiteboard. “Our goal is to use sports as a tool to teach values such as teamwork, discipline, respect, and perseverance,” Rodríguez emphasized.

The renovation of the El Túnel canal in Capotillo was also completed, significantly improving the quality of life for over 2,500 residents and benefiting an additional 12,000 people in surrounding areas. The project involved the installation of new water distribution networks, streetlights, and sidewalks, as well as the construction of a new riverfront park.

In Villa Faro, the president inaugurated the Sixto Minier High School, a modern facility equipped with 26 classrooms and a capacity for over 900 students. The RD$148 million school features a library, auditorium, guidance counseling center, and ample outdoor space.

Additionally, two new child care centers were opened in Alma Rosa Primera and Ensanche Isabelita, providing care and education for over 500 children aged 0 to 5. These centers offer a range of services, including early childhood stimulation, health care, nutrition, and special education support.

The Oportunidad 14-24 program, which aims to provide opportunities for young people who are neither working nor studying, has successfully graduated 4,596 beneficiaries. President Abinader expressed pride in the graduates and encouraged them to take advantage of the economic growth and become leaders in their communities.
