Dominicans can collect passports at Mirex after Venezuelan Embassy withdrawal
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) announced on Tuesday that Dominican citizens who had deposited their passports at the Venezuelan embassy in Santo Domingo for visa processing can retrieve their documents from the Mirex Consular Services Directorate starting tomorrow.
This action follows the decision by the Venezuelan government, led by Nicolás Maduro, to withdraw its diplomatic personnel from the Dominican Republic and several other countries. The move was in response to what Maduro’s government perceived as “interventionist actions and statements” related to the recent presidential elections.
In a statement released on social media, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that, beginning Wednesday, July 31, the passports will be returned to their owners at the Mirex Consular Services Directorate, available for pick-up Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
