President Biden appoints delegation for Luis Abinader’s swearing-in ceremony

Santo Domingo.- President Joe Biden appointed a delegation to attend the swearing-in of Luis Abinader as the re-elected president of the Dominican Republic on August 16.

The White House announced that the four-member delegation will be led by Energy Department Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm. Other U.S. representatives include Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo Cristina Aguilera, Senior Adviser to the President and Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs Tom Pérez, Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo, Special Presidential Advisor for the Americas Chris Dodd, and Special Assistant to the President and Director for the Western Hemisphere of the National Security Council Daniel P. Erikson.

These officials will represent President Biden at the ceremony where Abinader will be sworn in for the 2024-2028 term.

The Presidency of the Dominican Republic confirmed that at least 14 heads of state will attend the event, including King Felipe VI of Spain.

This year’s swearing-in will be held in the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater due to the National Congress Assembly Hall’s insufficient space to accommodate the numerous diplomatic visitors.
