Apple Pay now available for Visa cardholders in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- Starting August 6, Visa cardholders in the Dominican Republic can use Apple Pay, a convenient and secure payment method that eliminates the need to hand over a payment card, touch physical buttons, or exchange cash.

Visa cardholders can make contactless payments by simply tapping their iPhone or Apple Watch to a payment terminal. Each purchase with Apple Pay requires authentication via Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode, along with a unique dynamic security code generated on the spot. Apple Pay is accepted at grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, cafes, retail stores, and many other locations.

Security and Privacy

According to a press release, when using a Visa credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card number is never stored on the device or Apple servers. Instead, an account number is assigned to the device and securely encrypted and stored on the Secure Element, a certified, industry-standard chip designed to safely store payment information on the device.
