CND becomes the Caribbean’s first 100% solar-powered brewery

Santo Domingo.- Cervecería Nacional Dominicana (CND) proudly announces that its entire product line is now produced using 100% solar-powered electricity. This groundbreaking achievement sets a new benchmark in the Caribbean brewing industry, reinforcing the company’s dedication to sustainability and a cleaner future for all Dominicans.

Harnessing solar energy from the Matrisol solar park in Nagua, María Trinidad Sánchez province, CND has significantly reduced its carbon footprint. The transition to solar power slashes 60,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to removing 13,000 cars from the roads or planting one million trees over ten years.

Impressive Early Results

In just one month, from July 1 to August 1, 2024, CND consumed approximately 4,500 kW of solar energy, achieving a CO₂ emissions reduction comparable to planting and nurturing 42.5 trees for a decade. The first month’s energy savings equated to 169,786 smartphone charges, 10,586 kilometers driven by a gasoline car, or the energy generated by burning 2,834 pounds of coal.

Far-Reaching Impact

The solar energy powers the production and packaging of iconic brands like Presidente, The One, Brahma, Bohemia, Modelo beers, and non-alcoholic beverages such as Malta Morena, Lowenbrau, soft drinks, waters, and the energy drink 911. Beyond its environmental benefits, the solar park has created 600 direct jobs and 2,000 indirect jobs during its construction, with an additional 40 direct and 150 indirect jobs expected during its operation.
