Evasion and unfair competition by Chinese Dominican businesses will disappear
Santo Domingo—The National Association of United Dominican Merchants(Ancodomu) said that the fiscal modernization project proposed by the Executive Branch could destroy Dominican commerce if some provisions were not taken beforehand.
The head of planning of Ancodomu, Luis Manuel Gómez, said that Chinese trade presents intense levels of evasion and unfair competition against Dominican merchants.
“We are bankrupt because we are victims of an unfair, disproportionately unfair trade, the type of incursion that the Government allows and tolerates for Chinese investments is monstrous, it is a dragon that operates with a license to exterminate Dominican commerce,” the union emphasized during the public hearing convened by the Chamber of Deputies this week.
He explained that these reasons lead to a drop in collections because the businesses that pay taxes leave the competition and are exposed to bankruptcy.
He insisted that the authorities’ lack of control over these businesses threatens the existence of formal businesses of Dominican origin.
Likewise, Ancodomu supports the repatriation of undocumented foreigners who slum into commercial environments and replace local labor, taking away employment opportunities from the Dominican population in the labor force.
So, what happens if the gov does take control the commerce and the Chinese Dominican businesses continue to make leads in competition?
