Mayor’s Office and Banco Popular illuminate Santo Domingo for the holiday season
Santo Domingo.- The Mayor’s Office of the National District and Banco Popular officially launched the city’s Christmas lights, marking the start of the holiday season with 232 festive elements illuminating key avenues and parks. The lighting ceremony, held at La Lira Park, was led by Mayor Carolina Mejía, who expressed gratitude for Banco Popular’s continued support of community projects, highlighting their social commitment to improving the lives of Dominicans.
The initiative, which began on October 1 through the city’s Innovation and Special Projects Department, is part of Mayor Mejía’s plan to enhance the city’s appeal and quality of life for its residents. The Christmas lights display features LED decorations, including bells, trees, garlands, Santa Claus figures, candles, stars, and the love symbol for Santo Domingo.
The installations cover major avenues such as Abraham Lincoln, from Kennedy to 27 de Febrero, and include vibrant lights along the Malecón Promenade, an area revitalized by both the city and central government. Other illuminated streets include Gustavo Mejía Ricart and Sarasota. In addition to the light displays, Christmas photo stations have been set up in parks such as Iberoamérica, La Lira, and La Arboleda, bringing festive cheer to various neighborhoods.
