Las Galeras-Samaná Highway

Santo Domingo – The Ministry of Public Works and Communications stated that it had a team of experts to evaluate the mass displacement on the Punta Balandrita road, Las Galeras, Samaná.

Minister Deligne Ascención indicated that a team of soil mechanics technicians traveled to the province of Samaná to investigate the affected area and avoid risks to those who travel in that section.

He also indicated that the MOPC works in coordination with the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the Commission and the Military and Police Commission (Comipol) of the Ministry of Public Works.

It was highlighted that brigades and teams of the MOPC have been following up on the interruption of traffic and other situations on several roads in the North zone and provinces such as Samaná and Puerto Plata, which have been affected by the rains, which have been falling in large part of the national territory for two weeks.

Willing to bet the survey of the route prior to paving was inadequate, the base for paving was not stabilized, the pavement depth was not sufficient, and the paving materials were not of good quality. On top of this… it can be expected many overweight heavy vehicles suffered damage to the road.

The stretch on this road section has had and still has to motorists dangerously holes since 10 years and plus if not for 20 years the same crapy conditions.
