Grandmother left kids alone before fatal fire: neighbors say

San Cristóbal, DR – The three children who were burned to death last Friday night in the community of Los Toros, Cambita Garabitos municipality, in the province of San Cristóbal, had been left alone before the heartbreaking event.

Neighbors of the place said that the minors were in the care of their grandmother, but the lady had gone out to buy a pastry and a soft drink for one of them. However, when she returned, the house was already consumed by fire.

“The structure was completely ablaze. The neighbors, many people, wanted to put out the fire but they couldn’t,” said one of the residents of the sector where the misfortune occurred.

The children were siblings and answered to the name of Jeidel, 4 years old; Kairo, 2; and Daniela Hernández, 9 months.

So far, it is unknown what caused the fire. Locals say it probably had to be a short circuit.

Meanwhile, the National Police is investigating the circumstances of the event. The remains of the minors are in the National Institute of Forensic Pathology (Inacif).
