What will the weather be like on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day?
December has brought rainy days in the Dominican Republic, with an increase in rainfall close to December 20. This has raised concerns about how the weather will behave over the holidays, especially on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
According to meteorological analyst Jean Suriel, the next five or six days are expected to continue being rainy due to the influence of a trough and the proximity of cold front number 10. This could generate rainfall in different areas of the country, affecting Christmas Eve and Christmas festivities.
This Friday, the rains will continue, being moderate to heavy, due to the combination of humid winds from the sea and the trough. The possibility of flash floods is expected in the next 12 hours in the country’s south, southeast, north, northwest, and northeast.
According to Suriel, the trough will be north of the Dominican territory on Saturday, while cold front number 10 will begin approaching the northern Caribbean. The heaviest rains will be recorded in the afternoon and evening, with a high potential for flash flooding.
On Sunday and Monday, the rainfall will continue, with a greater intensity in the afternoon, increasing the risk of flash floods and river floods.
By Tuesday, December 24, the trough and the remnants of the frontal system will continue to affect the country, generating rain in the afternoon and night. Christmas Eve could be rainy in the south, southeast, the Central Cordillera, the north, and the northeast.
Finally, on Wednesday 25, Christmas Day, the chances of moderate rains and a very cool atmosphere persist throughout the country due to the polar air mass that will move north of the Dominican Republic.
