Fifth edition of “Plastics for Toys” collects over 3.7 million bottles
Santo Domingo.- Mayor Carolina Mejía spearheaded the fifth edition of Plastics for Toys at the Municipal Palace of the National District, collecting an impressive 3,732,056 plastic bottles. This initiative, held on the eve of Three Kings’ Day, brought joy to thousands of families as they exchanged 500 bottles for bicycles and 300 for skateboards, delighting children with new toys.
Mejía expressed immense pride in her team and the sponsors who supported the activity, emphasizing its dual purpose of spreading joy and promoting recycling education. She described the initiative as an act of love that fosters environmental awareness and community well-being.
The collected bottles, along with over 14 million from previous editions and Plastics for Schoolchildren, will be donated to the Botellas de Amor Foundation to be transformed into urban furniture like park benches. This year’s event was made possible through the collaboration of sponsors including Propagas, Banreservas, Coca-Cola, and others.
