Paliza assures Puerto Plata crime rate is one of the lowest in Dominican Republic

Puerto Plata —The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, said yesterday that the incidences of crime in this destination are among the lowest in the Dominican Republic, and emergencies related to tourists “are almost nil.”

Paliza said that this is a source of pride for the people of Puerto Plata, as it is an important national tourist pole.

The official, a native of Puerto Plata, led the presentation on the progress of the National Emergency Response and Security System 9.1.1 and delivered three ambulances, video surveillance cameras, and rescue equipment for the Municipal Fire Department and the Provincial Directorate of Civil Defense.

Paliza revealed that the video surveillance system in Puerto Plata has been strengthened with the installation of 50 new cameras, which cost approximately RD$50 million. These cameras have servers, fiber optics, storage, and specialized software licenses.

With these new cameras, 357 of those currently installed are reached, which will allow the Police authorities to have more excellent monitoring and follow-up capacity in cases of emergencies and Security. Paliza said ambulances would reinforce inter-hospital tensions in the municipalities of Sosúa, Guananico, and Villa Isabela. He also said that the Fire Department of the San Felipe municipality of Puerto Plata was provided with new firefighting equipment and communication radios for members of the Civil Defense.

He took the opportunity to deliver a garbage collection truck to the district of Sabaneta de Yásica, in the municipality of Sosúa, to continue strengthening solid waste management and contributing to sustainable development.

Paliza took the opportunity to announce that, by order of President Luis Abinader, the aid of the Amber Rescue Group, an NGO in Puerto Plata dedicated to the care of people in emergency conditions, will be restored.

Paliza stressed that the Government continues to make significant efforts to guarantee the efficiency of System 9.1.2 so that Dominicans can be confident when it comes to needing assistance in emergencies.

Paliza was accompanied by government and business representatives.
