Fifth Saharan dust cloud reaches Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic is currently experiencing its fifth Saharan dust cloud of the year, which is expected to linger until Friday afternoon, according to meteorological analyst Jean Suriel. The dust is causing increased respiratory, eye, and skin allergies, while also raising temperatures and reducing rainfall across much of the country.
The thickest concentration of dust is expected Thursday, with the most intense heat and allergy symptoms occurring from morning into the evening. Although rainfall is generally limited during this event, localized downpours may still occur in the northwest and Central Mountain Range due to the remnants of tropical wave number 9.
Suriel noted that the dust will begin to dissipate between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Friday, leading to clearer skies. However, another, smaller dust cloud is forecast to arrive on Sunday. He advised vulnerable populations, particularly children and the elderly, to consult doctors and keep allergy medications readily available.
