MICM tightens controls on illicit alcohol during Holy Week 2026
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), through CECCOM, has joined the national “Awareness for Life, Holy Week 2026” operation led by the Emergency Operations Center, aiming to protect public health and combat illicit trade during the holiday period.
As part of the initiative, 267 personnel have been deployed across eight regional directorates to carry out joint operations with security and emergency agencies. Their focus includes preventing risks, reducing accidents and intoxications, and enforcing regulations such as the ban on alcohol sales and tents on beaches during Good Friday.
Authorities will also intensify patrols and intelligence efforts nationwide to detect and dismantle networks distributing adulterated alcohol, particularly products containing methanol, a recurring public health threat during Holy Week. In addition, officials urged citizens to buy only from authorized establishments, verify product seals and packaging, and avoid unusually low-priced alcohol.
Through this coordinated operation, MICM and CECCOM reaffirm their commitment to enforcing regulations, ensuring safe commerce, and protecting citizens during one of the country’s busiest holiday periods.
