Dominican Republic nationality bill could become law as early as today

Santo Domingo.- The Senate Wednesday night unanimously approved the bill for the Law to naturalize people born in the country but registered irregularly in the Civil Register. The 26 lawmakers present voted for the legislation.

The senators approved the piece submitted by the Presidency to the Chamber of Deputies on May 15, after many sectors urged the Senate to approve it and not send it to Committee.

President Danilo Medina could sign the legislation into law as early as today.

The government plans to start the program to naturalize foreigners on June 1, managed by the Interior and police Ministry.

The Law allows naturalization to people born in the national territory of illegal foreign parents, and those included irregularly in the civil registry.
