Port-au-Prince doesn’t meddle ‘because Haitian offspring are Dominicans’

Santo Domingo.- Haiti ambassador Fritz Cineas denied Thursday that his country pushed Dominican Republic to adopt a naturalization Law and noted that ever since the Constitutional Court handed down ruling 168-13 on nationality, Port-au-Prince has maintained its position of respect for the Dominican people’s sovereignty and "and in now way does it interfere in the country’s internal affairs."

He said the issue of Dominicans of Haitian descent is the exclusively competency of the Dominican Republic because they’re Dominicans and Haiti’s Government only safeguards Haitians abroad.

As to the bilateral meeting that was scheduled between the two governments for today, the diplomat said the talks are still open and cited as an example the meetings which take place in Dominican Republic as well as across the other side of the border.

Cineas spoke after several meetings at the Foreign Ministry, between the ministers of Tourism and of Interior and Police from both countries.
