Santo Domingo West cable car line 3 to cost $250 million

Santo Domingo.- The third line of the Santo Domingo Oeste Cable Car transportation system will cost USD $250 million, equivalent to over 14,000 million pesos, as confirmed by the Trust for the Development of the Massive Transportation System of the Dominican Republic (Fitram).

FITRAM stated that sufficient funds will be available for the project’s subsequent stages, with the budget allocated according to the project execution schedule.

Line 3 of the Cable Car will connect kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway with the Buenos Aires sectors of Herrera, “Pintura” on 27 de Febrero, Ensanche Altagracia, El Café de Herrera, Sánchez Highway, and Puerto de Haina. It will have a capacity of 4,000 to 6,000 passengers per hour and span 8.43 kilometers in two independent sections.

Stations:

  • First Stage: Three stations starting at the Duarte Highway kilometer 9 corner Av. Luperón, connecting with Buenos Aires de Herrera – Av. 27 de Febrero corner Av. Isabel Aguiar “Cruce de Pintura” (linking to the Metropolitan Train and South Terminal).
  • Second Stage: Five stations from Av. 27 de Febrero corner Av. Isabel Aguiar “Cruce de Pintura” to Ensanche Altagracia – Café de Herrera – Carretera Sánchez (connecting to the Tram and South Short Terminal) – Puerto de Haina.

A minimum of 60 personnel (operators, assistants, and maintenance technicians) will be trained for the operation, maintenance, and vertical rescue activities.

For context, the Los Alcarrizos Cable Car cost RD$6,698 million and includes 4 stations, 1 cabin garage, 25 bollards, and 163 cabins, with a 4.20-kilometer line extension.
