Is electricity being stolen? Operation against electricity fraud carried out in Santiago

SANTIAGO. In a joint effort to curb electricity fraud, the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (EDENORTE) and the Electricity Supply and Supply Management Program (PGASE) conducted operations in several sectors of Santiago, where illegal manipulations in the energy distribution system were detected.

The operation focused on strategic areas of the city where irregularities were identified in the measuring equipment.

Upon inspecting the meters, it was discovered that some had been tampered with. This equipment was immediately confiscated, sheathed, and sent to the laboratory of the Dominican Institute for Quality (INDOCAL) for analysis and verification. This resulted in the addition of a radio frequency card for remote control of the meter on and off.

EDENORTE highlights that these interventions are part of the authorities’ ongoing effort to eradicate electricity fraud in the Dominican Republic. This crime affects not only the energy system but also the safety of citizens and the efficiency of the electricity service.

The PGASE and EDENORTE reiterate their commitment to continuing to combat electricity fraud and enforce legal provisions throughout the national territory.

They also invite the population to report any irregularity related to electricity consumption.
