Leonel Fernández calls for national dialogue on U.S. tariffs

Santo Domingo.- Former Dominican President Leonel Fernández has called for the creation of a national dialogue table to address the economic and social challenges posed by recent U.S. tariff measures. In a public statement, Fernández urged the government to bring together the country’s productive sectors and key stakeholders to develop a strategy that mitigates the impact of these external pressures on the Dominican economy.

As president of the Fuerza del Pueblo party, Fernández emphasized the need not only to respond to the threats but also to explore new global opportunities. He believes that through inclusive dialogue, the country can identify ways to strengthen its economic position and adapt to changing international dynamics.

In addition to economic concerns, Fernández stressed the importance of addressing irregular migration, warning of rising social tensions due to its strain on public services such as health, education, and employment. He reiterated his belief in dialogue and consensus-building as essential tools for effective governance and long-term national stability.
