Migration launches archive digitization project to enhance transparency

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) has launched a comprehensive plan to recover, restore, organize, and digitize its institutional archives, aiming to improve document protection, accessibility, and transparency. This initiative is part of a broader modernization effort led by DGM Director Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, following a strategic meeting with the National Archives (AGN). The AGN pledged full support in the project’s implementation.

Vice Admiral Lee Ballester highlighted the importance of securing institutional information for both immediate and future use, ensuring compliance with legal standards and facilitating transparent auditing. He emphasized that this effort marks a milestone in the Dominican Republic’s public document management, integrating advanced technologies and fostering collaboration between state institutions.

Key officials from both institutions participated in the initiative’s launch, including DGM technology, legal, and archival personnel, alongside AGN experts. During the visit, they toured critical facilities at the AGN, such as the Data Center, restoration and disinfection areas, and digitization units, underscoring the project’s technical depth and commitment to preserving national documentary heritage.
