Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic Export and Investment Center (ProDominicana) presented the fifth edition of its “Status of the Fashion Industry in the Dominican Republic 2025” study during Dominican Republic Fashion Week at the Marriott Piantini Hotel.
The report revealed that fashion exports totaled USD 862 million between January and July 2025, representing 10% of national exports, while in 2024, exports reached over USD 1.581 billion. Over 470 Dominican companies have placed products in 80 international markets, with the United States, Haiti, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Belgium as the main destinations. Between 2016 and 2024, global fashion trade grew from USD 1.30 trillion to USD 1.78 trillion, reflecting the sector’s resilience and adaptation to trends such as circular fashion and digitalization.
Under the leadership of Biviana Riveiro Disla, ProDominicana has prioritized diversifying exports and promoting non-traditional sectors with high international potential, including fashion. The study, presented by Carolina Pérez, director of ProDominicana’s Market Intelligence department, emphasized technical training as a key factor for competitiveness. In 2024, Infotep trained over 8,500 people in fashion-related areas, 73% of whom were women, strengthening the specialized workforce and consolidating female participation in the industry.
Dominican fashion hubs such as Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís, and San Cristóbal, along with provinces like Santiago, La Vega, and La Romana, are contributing talent to the international stage. The study also highlighted milestones like the international registration of the Barahona Larimar designation of origin in July 2025, reinforcing its value in the luxury jewelry and fashion market. Between January and June 2025, 177,540 pounds of larimar were exported, more than double the 2024 volume.
