Migration authorities detain over 2,000 undocumented migrants in nationwide operations
Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported that 2,199 undocumented migrants were detained and 1,890 deported during operations carried out on March 31 and April 1, 2026, as part of intensified migration control efforts.
According to the agency, deportations were conducted through border points in Dajabón (493), Elías Piña (983), Jimaní (321), and Pedernales (163), with authorities stating that due process and human rights protocols were followed throughout the procedures.
Of those detained, 1,345 were arrested by DGM agents, while 854 were apprehended by security forces, including the Army, Police, CESFRONT, and SENPA. Operations were carried out across multiple regions, including Greater Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Altagracia, Samaná, Espaillat, and key border provinces, targeting both urban and rural areas as well as high-traffic zones such as highways, transport hubs, and agricultural communities.
