Authorities issue red flag alert for Puerto Plata beaches

Puerto Plata.- The Civil Defense of Puerto Plata raised a red flag this Friday across the entire Atlantic coastline due to dangerous maritime conditions, following recommendations from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology.

According to the weather bulletin, in effect from 6:00 a.m. Friday through 6:00 a.m. Saturday, a trough combined with east-northeast winds and an anticyclonic system over the Atlantic is generating abnormal waves and hazardous sea currents, posing risks to swimmers and maritime activities.

Authorities advised operators of small and medium-sized vessels to remain in port along the Atlantic coast, from east of Saona Island to Monte Cristi, while the Caribbean coast remains unaffected. Beachgoers are also warned of a high risk of rip currents and are urged to consult rescue agencies before entering the water.

The Civil Defense called on residents and travelers visiting Puerto Plata during Easter to comply with the red flag warning and avoid swimming. Authorities confirmed they will maintain constant monitoring and provide updates as conditions evolve.
