Hoteliers don’t want high-rises next to beaches

Macao

Santo Domingo.- The Hotels and Tourism Association (Asonahores) on Thurs. asked to continue with the tourism development model based on a low density and low height of the buildings, and called negative for the sector the approval of towers next to beaches and resorts.

The organization’s statement responds to a resolution approved in October that changes the zoning regulations in a sector of Macao beach, in Punta Cana (east), to allow the construction of 22-story buildings.

A resort and golf course that had been announced for Playa Macao several years ago never came to fruition, for which the new project could herald a boom for the residents east of Punta Cana.
