Labor Ministry bans credit checks of workers, job-seekers

Santo Domingo.- The Labor Ministry on Wednesday banned checks of credit history of a person as a criteria for companies to give a job.

Resolution 02/2015 dated February 2 says the practice of checking a job applicant’s credit history is discriminatory because it’s an exclusion and contrary to equal opportunity or treatment to seek employment ,.

It also orders the Labor Ministry’s Employment and Labor departments to effectively enforce the resolution and any other provision which protects the right of individuals with regard to discriminatory acts to access employment or while a person is employed.

The resolution adds that Article 44 of the Constitution states: "The person has the right to privacy, personal honor and respect and no meddling in their private life.”
