Top US natural gas supplier to start imports in October
Santo Domingo.- Cheniere Energy Inc. executives Renato Pereyra and Albert Nahas are in the country to hammer out the sale of liquefied natural gas to Antillean Gas and also met with representatives of Barrick Gold and of Dominican Republic’s State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE).
Cheniere, the leading natural gas export terminal in the US is slated to start exports in October from its Sabine Pass terminal, Louisiana, while the Antillean Gas terminal in eastern San Pedro de Macoris plans to import one million tons of LNG from Cheniere based on Henry Hub price.
The LNG would reach the country at around RD$8.00 per MMBTU under the current pricing formula, plus the terminal fee. At that price the cost of the energy component would be lower than RD$10.00 per kilowatt hour.
President Danilo Medina headed groundbreaking for the natural gas project in February last year.
