Puerto Ricans come to Santo Domingo as a way to reach the US

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has become a “refuge” and a “bridge of passage” for hundreds of Puerto Ricans and Dominicans who’ve arrived after losing most of their belongings in Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria.

Accompanied by memories, a single suitcase, and even their pets, dozens of families step on Dominican soil in hopes of returning to the “Enchanted Island,” when the situation gets back to normal.”

Nearly 700 passengers arrived at Santo Domingo port on Tues. most of them with a one-way ticket since for some Dominican soil is the bridge to reach the US, where they’ll  work to rebuild their lives.
