SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican alleged murderer Fermín Antonio Taveras, arrested near the capital Thursday, was escorted to the Justice Ministry Friday morning, to start the extradition process to Panama, where he’s charged with the death of five Chinese-Panamanians, whose bodies were found buried in a house.

Taveras, AKA Ángel Betancourt, was taken before Extradition section prosecutor Gisela Cueto, before handing over to Panama authorities. The defendant reportedly agreed to voluntary extradition.

Taveras is accused of murdering Yesenia Lou Kam, 18; Young Wu Ken, 27; Sammy Zenq Chen, 19; Yoel Liu Wung, 19 and Georgina Lee Chen,18, in the town of La Chorrera, 30 kilometers west of the capital Panama City, where authorities said they had been kidnapped for ransom.

The Police said Taveras was arrested while trying to hide in a tank full of water.
