March against violence toward women honors anti-Trujillo heroines

Santo Domingo. – The Justice and the Women ministries will conduct the third simultaneous march against violence toward women across the Dominican Republic starting 4pm Wednesday, aimed at creating awareness into physical and psychological aggression on the female population.

“Zero tolerance on violence against women” is the march’s motto, which in the National District’s Mirador Park will be headed by Justice minister Radhames Jiménez, and Women minister Alejandrina German, together with other officials and personalities.

Roxanna Reyes, Assistant prosecutor for Women topics said the march will set out from Churchill avenue, and conclude with a gathering in front of the Centro de los Heroes Palace of Justice, with a performance by singes and dancers.

The activity will also mark the “International day for the elimination of violence against women” which each November 25 remembers Mirabal sisters (Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa), assassinated that same day in 1960, by the dictator Rafael Trujillo’s thugs.
