Ex Cincinnati Reds star pitcher again questioned in murder case

Santo Domingo. – The Justice Ministry’s Anti-laundering Unit again interrogated former Cincinnati Reds star pitcher Jose Rijo more than four hours Thursday, on his alleged business ties to the fugitive Matías Avelino Castro, wanted in the murder of journalist Jose Silvestre.

Rijo surrendered a series of documents on the origin of his assets and reiterated that he owns two properties jointly with Avelino Castro, iincluded El Gran Apart-Hotel in Las Galeras of Samaná and a billboard company, whose name he didn’t reveal.

The authorities accuse Avelino Castro of drug trafficking and of ordering Silvestre’s murder.

The ex Major Leaguer said he wouldn’t provide more details since it could hinder the investigation, and that the Justice Ministry told him they’ll contact him again if need be, but didn’t set a new date for questioning. “I am certain that everything will be clarified, and I want to ask the people to have faith in me, I’m not going to defraud you.”
