Priest’s complaint against the country not important, US Ambassador says

Santo Domingo.- American ambassador Raul Yzaguirre yesterday confirmed a process initiated against the country in the United States Department of Labor, but noted that in his view, “it’s not of great importance" and that “there’s no reason for something negative.”

Yzaguirre met with officials of the Labor and Foreign Relations ministries, one day after Foreign Relations minister Carlos Morales revealed that the priest Christopher Hartley has filed a complaint against country in Washington, on alleged violations of labor laws in sugar cane plantations, based on chapter 16 of the RD-Cafta free trade pact.

“We’re clarifying the situation and we have very good relations, and we expect something fruitful and beneficial for workers and the relations between both countries," the diplomat said.
