Senior official bolts from post peeved with audit(Update)

Santo Domingo.- The National Assets administrator Elias Wessin Chavez resigned his post Wednesday citing disgust with the audits conducted ??by the Accounts Chamber in the agency responsible for managing a vast array of State-owned real estate.

"I reject absolutely the statement by the Chamber of Auditors. I will now devote myself entirely to demonstrate the falsehood and selectivity of the Accounts Chamber," the official said.

Wessin has been the target of criticism since an Accounts Chamber audit two years ago found allegedly “serious irregularities” ranging from unsupported payments, excessive spending and nepotism.”

The finding was first aired by investigative journalist Nuria Piera.

Hoy.com.do reports that the auditallegedly found more than RD$100.0 million in malfeasance.
