Human Rights Court ruling shows anti-Dominican bias; Legal Adviser

Santo Domino.- Executive Branch Legal advisor Cesar Pina Toribio on Tuesday said in its recent conviction of Dominican Republic for the death of seven Haitians, the American Human Rights Court (IACHR) acted lightly and with biased regarding the country’s relations with Haiti.

He said the particularities of the links and the factors involved between Dominican Republic and Haiti must be taken into account. "Obviously there’s bias in the Human Rights Court ruling which should be of concern for all of Dominican Republic and especially those in government leadership, who handle international relations."

After discarding a rupture in the country’s relations with the IACHR, the official said that we must pay attention and reflect on the rulings handed down against the country to adopt adequate positions.

Pina’s statements comes one week after the IACHR found the Dominican State guilty of the deaths of seven Haitian immigrants by Army soldiers who shot at a truck after it failed to heed the order to stop at a border checkpoint on June 18, 2000.
