Beach fraud case went missing from Prosecutor’s files 2002 to 2004

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Aguilas Bahia de las fraud case went missing from the files at the National District Office of the Prosecutor, forced investigators to start it’s reconstruct.

The parts were "disappeared" from 2002 to 2004, when the authorities discontinued the prosecution in what has been called the country’s biggest land fraud ever.

The prosecution’s case against then Dominican Agrarian Institute director Jaime Rodriguez Guzman stemmed from the bogus homesteads which according to the indictment included areas in La Vega and Sabaneta, in addition to Bahia de las Aguilas, but only aspects of the latter case disappeared.

A source quoted by eldia.com.do said the criminal record is different from the fraud by the issuance of titles through the Land Court. "They are two different cases, one criminal and the other of property. The one which disappeared is on the criminal charge."

The Justice Ministry has a appointed a special team for the of Bahia de las Aguilas case which is now focused on the real estate fraud to rebuild the criminal case.
