Powerful former official’s fraud case ‘shrouded in a veil of mystery’, media

Santo Domingo.- Former Public Works minister Victor Diaz Rúa has vanished even from the ‘houses of worship” just 24 hours after National District Prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso announced a criminal investigation into alleged fraud, embezzlement and money laundering.

Elcaribe.com.do report failed attempts to obtain a comment in Diaz’s private office, at the ruling PLD party’s Financial Dept., or his residence.

On Wednesday Reynoso said she personally heads the investigation, revealing that the authorities "proceeded to freeze the former Minister’s bank accounts in the millions of pesos of bench warrant from the investigating judge."

She said Arab-American businessman Mustafa Abu Naba’ is also being investigated in the, case among others.

“Victor Díaz Rúa’s case remains shrouded in a veil of mystery," says hoy.com.do, and noted that “other details of this case are kept hidden,” citing Reynoso’s omission of the accounts "in the millions" or results of the audit she said she requested as well.
