Probe of powerful former Public Works chief continues, Prosecutor warns
Santo Domingo.- National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso warned Tuesday that the probe into alleged embezzlement, fraud and money laundering against former Public Works minister Victor Diaz Rúa will continue, even after the lawyers’ guild (CONA) withdrew the charges.
"It doesn’t mean anything for the investigation because you know that it’s about public order," the official said, citing articles of the Criminal Procedural Code.
Reynoso stressed that it’s an open investigation given the seriousness of the offenses, and warned that society should be well aware that the prosecution will continue its case.
She reiterated that Diaz Rua’s bank accounts were frozen on a judge’s order, at the Prosecutor’s request.
Diaz Rua, considered one of former president Leonel Fernandez’s closest collaborators, is also the treasurer of Dominican Republic’s ruling party, PLD.
