Ministers: Bribe scandal in attack planes deal should be probed

Santo Domingo.- Defense minister Sigfrido Páred Pérez on Wednesday said the Armed Forces cannot launch an investigation based on information in cables from abroad, but on concrete facts instead.

The official, asked about alleged US$3.4 million bribes in the Dominican government’s purchase of nine Super Tucano light attack aircraft, said it’s up to the Justice Ministry to probe the report, but promised the Defense Ministry’s full support.

In that regard Interior and Police minister José Ramon Fadul also said he agrees that the case should be investigated.

The officials spoke in the southern city of San Cristobal, during the ceremony to mark the 169th anniversary of the Dominican Constitution.
