After whirlwind ‘honeymoon’ new U.S. ambassador arrives in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- After a seemingly short “honeymoon” new U.S. ambassador in Dominican Republic James “Wally” Brewster took the oath on Friday and shortly after married his partner of several years, Bob J. Satawake, with whom he arrived in the Caribbean Tuesday afternoon

U.S. media report that Brewster, prominent Chicago businessman and gay rights activist, who owns a home in the Dominican Republic, is the seventh U.S. ambassador in history to be openly gay.

Brewster, upon arriving at Las Americas International Airport at 3:42 on American Airlines flight 1481 from Miami, said he was honored by U.S. President Barack Obamas’s confidence by naming him to the post. "I’m greatly satisfied with having been selected due to the solid ties that link us to this wonderful country."
