U.S.-backed group wants probe on Dominican Republic’s US$1.4B fiscal hole
Santo Domingo.- The U.S. backed organization Citizen Participation(PC) on Thursday asked the Justice Ministry to investigate those behind the country’s fiscal deficits of 2012, based on the SocialEconomic Council’s report claiming 24 violations of at least nine laws.
In a press conference, PC coordinator Roberto Alvarezsaid among the people responsible for the deficit figure former president LeonelFernández and Economy minister Temistocles Montas.
Citing the report, the PC executive affirmed that ahighly dangerous practice that began in 2008 led to a RD$53.0 billion (US$1.3billion) deficit, which continued in 2009, and reached RD$56.6 billion (US$1.4billion) in 2011.
