Christmas safety plan starts today in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.– The ChristmasOperation Plan to reduce traffic accidents and other threats to public safety duringthe holidays, starts today at 2:00 pm until Wednesday 25 at 8:00 pm, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) announced.

According to COE director Juan Manuel Mendez Garcia, this year’s plan includes over 33,000 military, paramedics, police and search and rescue specialists deployedacross the country.

Mendez also said that 1,600 aid posts, three helicopters, a mobile hospital, 164 ambulancesand nine regional command centers are part of the plan, in which are involved other agencies such as the Red Cross, the National Police and the Armed Forces,and Public Works ministries.

The two-tier operation, with the slogan "For Dominican culture,values and safety 2013-2014," will continue at 2:00 pm Monday on the 30th,to conclude 8:00 pm Wednesday. Jan. 1.
