No deal with Puerto Rican kingpin’s paramour: Top prosecutor

Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Domínguez on Thursday said money laundering convict Sobeida Felix’s plea bargaining deal with the National District Office of the Prosecutor wasn’t an agreement, for which the authorities won’t adhere to it.

"I’ve repeated a thousand times that it was not an agreement for prosecutors to implement because the agreements established by law are approved in court," the official said.

He said law on plea bargaining establishes a procedure to strike an agreement, “which wasn’t specified in this case.”

What then National District Prosecutor Alejandro Moscoso did was that "he simply gave his word for a time and took a few pertinent steps," Dominguez said, adding that the sale in auction of properties seized from Felix is irreversible.

Felix is serving a 5-year prison sentence in the case of her paramour, Puerto Rican kingpin José Figueroa Agosto, Dominican Republic’s biggest drug trafficking scandal.
